The Story Behind the Voice
I founded my first school, Monstar Music, in 2004. My goal was to provide a personal, affordable alternative to the rigid singing schools of the time. However, as I began working deeper with individuals, I realised that their vocal challenges were often more complex than standard "singing lessons" could solve. I didn’t just want to give my students songs; I wanted to give them answers.
The Estill Turning Point
In 2008, I discovered the Estill Voice Model, and it changed everything. It provided the scientific clarity I had been looking for. I spent the next decade dedicated to mastering these mechanics, qualifying as an Estill Figure Proficiency (EFP) in 2010 and reaching the level of Estill Master Trainer (EMT) in 2020.
A Legacy of Education
My work has always been rooted in deep, long-term development. Alongside my private practice, I have spent the last 15 years at Templestowe College, mentoring students from Year 7 through to VCE 3/4. Guiding young singers through the rigours of VCE Music Performance has given me a unique perspective on how to build reliable, high-performance habits that withstand the pressure of examination.
This experience is complemented by my time in the VET sector at The Edge Performers School, where I taught voice for the Diploma of Musical Theatre. There, I worked with elite performers and many dancers. (I don't dance myself, but I have spent years perfecting the art of teaching dancers how to sing.)
Vocal Foundations: Why You Are Here
I transitioned from Monstar Music to Vocal Foundations in 2013 to reflect a shift from a "singing school" to a specialised voice practice. Today, my work is about autonomy.
Whether you are a singer hitting a technical ceiling, a professional speaker who needs to command a room, or a gender-diverse individual looking to align your voice with your identity, the goal is the same: to give you total ownership of your instrument.
More Than Just Mechanics
Vocal autonomy is about more than just "hitting the right notes." When you truly understand the mechanics of your voice, the guesswork disappears. This is where confidence and self-worth are built.
I work with all voice users to remove the anxiety of "will my voice work today?" and replace it with a solid, predictable foundation. By focusing on the physical coordination of Flow, Vibration, and Resonance, we create a voice that is not only sustainable but one that truly reflects who you are.
